The sport that improves your first touch
Created on the beaches of Brazil it has arrived in North America.
Great for players desiring to improve their first touch and aerial control. Great for players to improve their explosive movements since it is played primarily in the sand. Very good for players that have played at a competitive level and are getting older.
We are excited to announce the Footvolley in the Orlando area. Florida Lions has partnered with The Masters Academy, MSA and the National Footvolley Association to bring footvolley to American schools and youth clubs.
Our players will participate in the National Championship of the NFA representing MSA and BrazUsa.

BASIC RULES
The object of footvolley is to score more points than your opposing team.  To score points each team attempts to send the ball regularly over the net to ground the ball within the opposing team’s court. The opposing team will attempt to prevent the ball from being grounded on its own court. Hands and arms are never to be used. If a team sends the ball over the net and it hits one of the two players on the opposing side and then falls outside the court area then the team which sent the ball over for this to occur has received a point.  This is equivalent to grounding the ball on the other team’s side.
The ball is put into play by serving the ball with one’s foot over the net to the opponent’s court. A team is allowed to hit the ball three times to return it to the opponent’s court. A player is not allowed to hit the ball twice consecutively.  The rally continues until the ball touches the ground or goes “out” or a team fails to return it to the opponent’s court or commits a fault.   If a team fails to deliver the ball over the net then the opposing team is rewarded with the point.

 

Scoring:
US Footvolley uses a RALLY POINT scoring system.  A point will be scored after each serve, period.  There are no side-outs in footvolley.

 

Match Formats:
Given time constraints, US Footvolley does allow discretion for tournament organizers to decide which match format to be used.  The most commonly used format is that the match is decided in ONE SET with the winning team being the first to reach 18 points.  Other formats used is the the ‘best of three’ sets where each set is won with 15 points.

 

Tie-Break:
There are no ties in footvolley.  With scoring set to a certain point total there will be times where both teams reach advance within one point of winning together.  When a tie like this happens the way to determine the winning squad is to continue the match until one team advances to a margin of two points from the other squad (ie. 19-17 or 21-19; etc.).  There is no maximum cap.  Play must continue until there is a winner decided by the two point margin.

Serving:
Footvolley serves are kicked in. Player has 5 seconds to serve once the referee has blown his/her whistle.
If windy conditions exist, the ball should be required to spin on the serve (open rule at tournament organizers’ discretion).

Touches on the ball:
In footvolley, each side has a maximum of 3 touches.

Playing Area:
The footvolley court dimentions are 59 FT by 29 FT 6 Inches (18M x 9M).  This is same size Beach Volleyball used in the past.  An area surrounding the playing surface, for players chasing balls, should be set at 20 feet from the ends of the court and 10 feet from the sides.

Height of the Net:
Men’s Court:      The Footvolley net should be set at 7′ or  2.15 meters.
Women’s Court: The Footvolley net should be set at 6′ 6″ or 2 meters.

In Game Rules:
•    Maximum of three hits per side
•    Player may not hit the ball twice in succession
•    Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on serve.
•    A ball touching a boundary line is good; ball touching the antenna is OUT
•    A legal hit is contact with the ball by any part of the body, except the hand or arm, which does not allow the ball to visibly come to a rest
•    If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered TWO TOUCHES
Basic Footvolley Violations:
•    Stepping on or over the line on a serve
•    Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully
•    Touches of the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play
•    Reaching under the net (if it interferes with the ball or opposing player)
•    The use of the arm or hand is illegal.  The outside and top of shoulder may be used IF THE arm is rested against the body when initiating the hit on the ball.

Footvolley Team Formation:
Each squad is made up of 2 players.  No substitutions (this includes player injury).

Player Decorum:
No cursing or offensive gestures before, during, or after a match by players, managers, staff, referees, or any member of US Footvolley.  The referee makes determination for immediate expulsion due to severity of offensive action by a player.

 

Player Discipline:
Yellow Card and the resulting loss of point. A minor offensive infraction may result in the referee issuing a player a yellow card.  A yellow card reduces the guilty team’s score total by one point.
Red Card and immediate forfeit. A major infraction or a second yellow card from the same player will result in the referee issuing a RED card. A red card results in a player being disqualified from the match resulting in a forfeit loss to the guilty side. 

Player Uniforms:
Both players on a squad must wear matching clothes (same tops and shorts).  No jewelry may used during a match.

 

Picking Side or Service:
One team will select heads/tail and depending on the resulting flip of a coin, by the referee, the winning team can select if they prefer to choose to serve (or receive serve) or on which side of the court they would prefer to start the match on.

 

Switching Sides After Certain Point Threshold:
Tournament Directors have the authority to determine if there will be side switching or not after a point threshold.  The thresholds which should be followed are: every 6 points in sets to 12 or 18 points and every 5 points in sets to 15 points.
